What Men Want Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to the What Men Want Movie Review by Ms. H

I’ve watched the actor Taraji P. Henson on several talk shows, so I knew she had a sense of humor based on how she answered some interview questions. What Men Want is the first comedy I’ve seen with Taraji P. Henson as the star.  Did she deliver as I expected? Check out my movie review and find out.

By the way -- The What Men Want movie is rated R and should not be seen by anyone under 17 years of age without being accompanied by parents or guardians.

My First Impressions of the What Men Want Movie

After seeing the trailer for the What Men Want movie, I was ready for lots of laughs. Unfortunately, they were few and far between. The most memorable scene in the movie was when Taraji P. Henson reached for and caught the football over the meeting table -- then finding out that the football was not meant for her. On a positve note, I liked the fast pace of the What Men Want movie, at least in the beginning, when she seemed to move around quickly.

Plot of the What Men Want Movie

The plot  of the What Men Want movie is one that I’ve seen in movies time and time again -- but in different environments and with various scenarios.  For example, this movie reminded me a little of Jennifer Lopez’s recent movie -- Second Act. The major difference is it was clear to me that Taraji P. Henson is a more skilled or accomplished actor than Jennifer Lopez. For instance, Taraji P. Henson is able to show varying emotions with her facial expressions to set the tone for a particular scene.  By contrast, Jennifer Lopez’s acting is adequate, but not at the same high calibre as Taraji P. Henson's.

Taraji P. Henson plays the role of a sports agent, trying to land a football star for the company. She is joined by Tracy Morgan who is the father of the football star.  In my opinion, he tried too hard to be funny  -- and unfortunatelly -- never made the grade.

Breakout Star of the What Men Want Movie

The actor who surprised me in this movie was Erykah Badu's portrayal of a psychic who apparently had other side-occupations as well.  You may know that Erykah Badu is known mostly as a singer. It was as if this part was crafted especially for her. In fact, others agree with me because she is given extra camera time at the end of the movie. If you want to see her psychic predictions for some of the other characters, hang back after the movie ends and watch the out-takes.

Predictability of the What Men Want Movie

The What Men Want movie is predictable since you probably get the impression everything will work out for Taraji P. Henson’s character. However, there is one big almost twist in the movie towards the end -- that you may or may not expect.  But, true to form for comedies, this action is changed towards the end and everything worked out.

Assessment of the What Men Want Movie

If you enjoy watching romantic comedies or even sports, I do not think the What Men Want movie will disappoint you. The downside was I did not like the amount of profanity throughout this movie. I closed my ears to these parts concentrating instead on the story. There are a few laughs throughout the movie, but I did not find any parts where I laughed out loud, except for the football catch scene that I mentioned earlier.

That being said, I found the movie to be entertaining.  Like me, you may find the ending of the movie questionable especially since there was no lead up to this decision being made.  To respond to the question posed earlier on whether Taraji P. Benson delivered in the What Men Want movie -- my answer is yes. However, there were some room for improvement in the movie itself.

Rating of the What Men Want Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the What Men Want Movie 3 stars.

Hanna Amazon Prime Movie Review by Ms. H - Episode 1

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of allgames.com.

Introduction to Hanna Amazon Prime Movie Review by Ms. H - Episode 1

I found out about  Amazon's Prime movie titled "Hanna" while I was watching the Super Bowl. A commercial for Hanna came on along with the notice that you can watch this movie free for the next 24 hours.  Since there was a time limit, I decided not to diddle daddle and chose to watch this movie before the 24 hours were up. However, there really was no time limit -- just a gimmick for Amazon to try to get viewers.  Now the notice states “For a limited time” along with the 24 hours timeframe. So even though the "24 hours" have come and gone -- you can still watch the movie if you have Amazon Prime video.  Go figure.

My First Impression of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

Based on the action packed trailer that was shown with the female star Esme Creed-Miles (or her stunt double) performing a lot of physical acrobats instead of standing idle on the sidelines -- I was looking forward to watching this movie.  However, it was after the movie began and the story unfolded that I realized that Hanna was not the adult action female star that I expected. Instead, as the story progresses, it was revealed that she was in her early teens -- 15 years old to be exact. If you watched the trailer, you will probably think like I did that she is much older.

Plot of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

The plot is a hackneyed one which has been used numerous times in many movies. The story centers around a couple who stole an infant that was not their own.  Of course there was a car chase that ended in a crash with the driver surviving along with the infant girl.

The story jumps ahead 15 years and it looks like the forest became the home of the father and the girl. Apparently the father ventured from the forest, maybe to a town nearby to purchase supplies, because there is a scene where he is shown chopping wood while using what looks to be a brand new axe. Also I noticed he served his stolen daughter food from a shiny spoon, so he apparently went shopping at some time during their stay in the wilderness and was not relegated to the forest -- as the movie writer expects the audience to believe.

Isolation of Hanna's LIving Conditions in the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

The writer of this story would like you also to believe that this 15 year old girl lived in the wilderness and was unaware of her outside surroundings -- beyond the forest.  Anyway, as the story continues, she meets, of course another teenager who may be a couple of years older than she is after she seemingly escaped the makeshift cabin where she stayed with her father.  Additionally,  it looks like her father did not teach her the ways of the modern world because when she met this other person with a cell phone --  She seemed to be naive about simple actions such as texting.

Action Scenes Performed in the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

This was the very first episode of Hanna, so I’m sure as more episodes are aired, you will see Hanna performing other actions that her father taught her.  There were a few action scenes involving her training -- but not anything that I felt compelled to write about.

Assessment of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

This is a movie that may have to grow on you -- pun intended about the teenage star who plays the role of Hanna.  I think she is depicted so young because looking ahead and as the years go by, they can choose to keep Esme Creed-Miles in this role for a long time ensuring job security for everyone involved in the movie -- that is -- if the movie is not canceled.  Just so you know, in real life Esme Creed-Miles is actually 19 years old but is playing a 15 year old.

I’m on the fence about watching additional episodes of Hanna, especially given the age of the main character in the movie.  That being said, I’m sure there are viewers who will ignore her age and watch Hanna regardless.  Another negative for me was her decisions to choose when she is obedient to her "father" and when she decides not to be.

Spoiler Alert: The movie ended with Hanna being captured without her father -- so it may be interesting to see what happens next in the other episodes.  Whether or not you watch this first episode of Hanna as well as any of the other episodes is totally up to you. I would probably tune in if the other episodes were free -- but since they are not, I think I will skip the upcoming episodes of Hanna -- at least for now.

Rating of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Hanna Amazon Prime Movie -Episode 1 Two (2) stars.

Miss Bala Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to Miss Bala Movie Review by Ms. H

After a long dry spell of not so great movies -- finally, the Miss Bala movie comes along.  I intentionally did not do a lot of research about this movie, because I wanted to find out how the film industry would depict the star, Gina Rodriguez, especially, since the entire movie seems to be centered around her. My initial thought was that she would play the role of a government operative involved in a lot of action based scenarios.  In a way, I was correct, but the movie took a whole different turn from what I expected -- which was a good thing.

Plot of Miss Bala Movie

Since I would like you to see this movie  while it is out in theaters -- or even when it moves to DVD and streaming services, I will not reveal any spoilers in my movie review.  Suffice it to say that there are some twists and turns in the story. There are also parts where you may ask yourself if women have made any strides when it comes to being recognized as equals; however, that is another topic for another day.

Miss BalaMiss Bala

Actor Gina Rodriguez in Miss Bala Movie

I am not  familiar with Gina Rodriguez as an actor.  I found out that she has been acting for awhile -- having starred in some TV shows and movies. That being said, if you see the Miss Bala movie, I do not think you will be disappointed in her acting skills.  When she was supposed to act frightened -- she did. When she was supposed to act revengeful -- she did. In other words, I saw Gina Rodriguez as an accomplished actor ready to show off her acting skills in whatever scenes she appeared in.

Believability of the Mss Bala Movie

I would describe the believability of this movie as “raw” and “unpolished.” Some of the actions happen in an area that is probably known for its high crime rate.  From watching this movie, you may think twice before either living or visiting there. Of course, since Miss Bala is a movie, certain scenes were exaggerated -- but I would still recommend caution.

Regarding how the cringe-worthy scenes were shown -  I liked that the director knew when to leave these type scenes to your imagination.  Some directors seems to push the envelope in this area by showing all the gruesome details  -- not in the movie Miss Bala.

Movie Magic in Miss Bala Movie

If you are looking for movie magic in Miss Bala, you will not find it. This is not a negative though.  It appeared as if every scene moved the story along without the need for flashbacks (which are ok for some movies) or slow motion captures  (which are not ok for any movie). There is a scene that would have lended itself perfectly to the slow motion walking that you sometimes see in films -- which was not done.  There was no need for this since the plot, storyline and actions were enough to keep the audience attention without the need for intrusive movie magic scenes.

Assessment of Miss Bala Movie

The Miss Bala movie has action, drama and quite a bit of suspense.  If you choose to see Miss Bala, I think the movie will hold your interest throughout.  I was not a fan of the violence, or the way some of the females were treated -- but I reminded myself that this is only a movie.  There was also a situation where the director led you to believe that Gina Rodriguez’s character should have been suspicious of something -- but she did not take action. Also, the major action scenes seem to be repetitive to me.  If not for these missteps, Miss Bala would have earned a 5 star rating from me.

Rating of Miss Bala

Based  on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Miss Bala 4 stars.

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not reflect those of allgames.com. Introduction to Captain Marvel Movie Review by Ms. H I would like to start off my movie review with a question to Disney.  My question is...Really? With the millions of dollars that your mega company has  -- you could not come up with quality talent to bring to life Captain Marvel in a more entertaining light?   Instead of using money to fly planes in CA to announce the movie’s opening, Disney should have spent the money on the content itself. But I’m getting ahead of myself. It’s been...
