Introduction to Bumblebee Movie Review by Ms. H

As you probably know, there have been several Transformers movies released previously.  I saw a few of these films and passed on some. Each time I watch a Transformer movie, it’s as if a new story has begun. Am I the only one who thinks it would be a good idea if all the Transformers movies could be connected in some way?  However, I’m getting ahead of myself.  Without further ado, here is my review of the Bumblebee movie.

BumblebeeBumblebee

Plot of the Bumblebee Movie

Similar to the other Transformers movies, there is a battle conflict between the autobots, the decepticons, as well as military or other forces on earth. Without spoiling the movie for you, it looks like the transformer Bumblebee, which changes from an old VW beetle car to a robot, is being hunted by the decepticons -- in addition to the military -- led by John Cena who plays  the part of Jack Burns. However, the plot changes as the storyline develops.

To make a long story short, the transforming Bumblebee is found by the lead female in the movie, Hailee Steinfeld who has the role of Charlie Watson.  Initially, she of course, did not know the car was a transforming robot, but eventually found out and became friends with the machine.

To me, the Bumblebee movie  reminded me slightly of another movie I reviewed recently, A.X.L. where a similar scenario took place with a connection or bond forming between the star of the movie and a machine, except the dog creature did not transform in the A.X.L. movie.

Acting Skills Displayed in the Bumblebee Movie

I was not particularly impressed with John Cena’s acting in this movie.  Whenever, he had lines to say, he tended to bark them out, as if he was in a wrestling match. Of course, he could have been directed to do so. The other actors performed their roles adequately for the movie, but there were no actors that particularly stood out in the movie.

Assessment of the Bumblebee Movie

If you have not yet seen Bumblebee in the movie theaters, I see no reason for you to rush out to do so.  You can wait for it to go to DVD or to one of the streaming services if you are curious about this movie. Additionally, the movie itself seemed more suited for television instead of the big screen. On a positive note, watching the robots transform to cars and planes caught my attention at first -- but after this happened a few times during the movie, I lost interest.

Rating of the Bumblebee Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being being the highest, I rate the Bumblebee movie 1 ¾ stars.

Destroyer Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to the Destroyer Movie Review by Ms. H

Happy New Year one and all!  I would like to start the New Year on a positive note by reviewing a movie that I consider a “good movie” -- even though it has a limited release in movie theaters.  The movie I’m referring to is Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman which may or may not be showing in your area. I will be giving a general movie review, because I do not want to spoil the Destroyer movie just in case you plan to  see it ether in the movie theaters or elsewhere. Destroyer is rated R for Restricted, and should not be seen by anyone under 17 years of age unless accompanied by parents or guardians.

Events in the Destroyer Movie

Any time a writer/director does something out of the ordinary to show events, scenarios, etc. that happened in a story -- I’m a total fan. There are plenty of situations in this movie where you have to pay close attention in order to know exactly what’s going on. Additionally, there is an element of action, suspense as well as drama since Destroyer is sort of a family as well as a police/detective movie.  I did not approve of all the profanity in Destroyer, including those mouthed by the actor who was playing a 16 year old teenager -- but had to overlook this in order to concentrate on what was happening in the movie.

Nicole Kidman in DestroyerNicole Kidman in Destroyer

Nicole Kidman -  Star of the Destroyer Movie

Nicole Kidman, as an actor, has been front and center in many of her movies -- so being the star of the movie was not a reach for her.  My opinion is she played her character realistically -- including interactions she had with other actors in the movie. To her credit, I think she played the character Erin Bell in a way where you may think that this person actually existed.

Assessment of the Destroyer Movie

If you watch the Destroyer movie, try not to miss any parts of it or you may get lost in the story, or you may have to try to figure out what’s going on without the information that is given during the movie.  The movie is told in a flashback format which goes back and forth -- so if you miss one of the flashback scenes (depending on the scene of course) you may not be able to quite understand what’s going on in the movie or it may take you awhile to do so. By the way, there are symbolism actions going on at the end of the movie.  You will know what I’m talking about if you see the movie.

I give kudos to the writer, the director and especially the actor, Nicole Kidman who made this character and movie come to life.  Once the Destroyer movie is over, you may have your own opinions about the type character she portrayed -- but you probably will agree with me that Nicole Kidman played this character well in a movie that will probably keep your interest throughout.

Rating of the Destroyer Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Destroyer 5 stars.

The Mule Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to The Mule Movie Review by Ms. H

I was on the fence about seeing the Clint Eastwood movie, The Mule, mainly because it’s been awhile since I’ve seen one and did not know what to expect.  I’m glad to reveal that The Mule did not disappoint. If you see The Mule movie, you may not observe high speed chases, running scenes, fights, explosions, etc., but a human interest movie that you may not mind watching -- just as I did. As a note - The Mule movie is rated R so you must be 17 years of age or older to see it unless accompanied by parents or guardians.

Plot of The Mule  Movie

From The Mule’s movie trailer,  you will probably determine the plot has a certain criminal element involving drugs and the drug cartel. Nothing mysterious here.  However, during the film, you get to know most of Clint Eastwood’s movie family as well as the people involved in attempting to track him down.

The MuleThe Mule

Reality Check for The Mule Movie

If you watch The Mule movie from beginning to end, you may notice at least two instances where the criminals feign a hint of concern for Clint Eastwood’s character, Earl Stone.  Even though the film is based on true events -- it is those scenarios that may be questionable, given the criminal nature of the people he was dealing with. However, to make the movie dramatic and probably to hold interest and in order to appeal to the empathy of the audience for Clint Eastwood’s character -- I believe the truth was stretched a bit in these segments.

Main Point of The Mule Movie

You may come away from this movie absorbing several messages, including the one that is voiced in the trailer from The Mule movie.  I think delivering a message(s) to the audience was the gist of the movie, instead of showing action scenes etc. which were nonexistent.   In fact, looking back on the movie, I do not recall any action scenes. Additionally and in hindsight, the movie seemed to be rather slow-moving. However, while I was at The Mule movie, there was enough suspense and storytelling involved that felt I was not wasting my time watching it.  You may feel the same as well.

Assessment of The Mule Movie

I believe The Mule movie shows that “good movies” come in many forms -- sometimes in the way of comedies, action/adventures, docudramas, etc.  Regarding comedy -- there was a section where the movie audience laughed, but for the most part, the movie tells a story of a man’s involvement in criminal activity and his regrets.

Rating of The Mule Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate The Mule movie 4 ¾ stars.

Introduction to Escape Room Movie Review by Ms. H When I saw the movie poster for the Escape Room film a few months ago, I was curious as to what the movie was all about. I came to the conclusion that puzzles would be involved because puzzle pieces appeared on one of the main actor’s faces on the promo poster. However, when I actually walked into the movie theater and took my seat -- I did not know what to expect from this movie. Did I like...

Introduction to Second Act Movie Review by Ms. H Did you know that at one time Jennifer Lopez had a number one album (J.Lo) and movie (The Wedding Planner) during the the same week -- back in 2001?  I think she was at the height of her career during that period. The good news is Jennifer Lopez shows no signs of slowing down. Her latest movie is called Second Act which can be described as a comedy drama, leaning more on the comedy genre.  Should you drop...

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of allgames.com. Introduction to Bird Box Netflix Movie Review by Ms. H Unless you live under a rock (just kidding), you may have heard of the Netflix movie Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock.  The previous movie she appeared in was Ocean's 8; however, she seemed to have topped her performance in her latest movie Bird Box. This was not a surprise to me.  After winning an Oscar and many other acting awards, there was no doubt in my mind that Sandra Bullock would do this movie justice. As a caution, there’s...

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not reflect those of allgames.com. Introduction to Mortal Engines Movie Review by Ms. H Let’s see...where should I start?  I think I will start with the fact the movie Mortal Engines is based on a book by Philip Reeve.  Looks like the movie was trying to follow the book too closely. This may explain all of the different subplots in the movie that made it difficult to pinpoint exactly who is the main character -- that is -- if there was one.  I believe the main character is the actress, Hera Hilmar...

Introduction to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Movie Review by Ms. H Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse is a Sony Pictures animated movie.  I made plans to see this movie as soon as it was released in movie theaters after seeing the trailer.  Personally, I would have preferred a non-cartoon version of Miles Morales as Spider-Man -- but it just so happens that the cartoon version turned out to be just as entertaining.  In fact, as you watch the movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, you may forget...

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not reflect those of allgames.com. Introduction I will cut to the chase and tell you what I thought about the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie.  It was simply a movie that you should skip and spend your time doing something else that will probably be a lot more enjoyable than watching this movie.  When I chose to watch this movie at the theater, I knew there would be plenty of Computer-Generated Images (CGI) which was not a problem. Unfortunately, among other things, there was not an interesting, cohesive, attention grabbing...
