Little Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to the Little Movie Review by Ms. H

You may have seen other films with a similar premise as the Little movie.  For example “13 Going on 30” and I’m sure many others. This movie seemed to focus on how an adolescent would act if she had the mind of an adult -- and retained the resemblance someone much younger.

Cast of Characters in the Little Movie

For the most part, the actors played their roles adequately.  However, no one actor stood out to me. For example, when I watched the movie “Girls Trip” it was obvious that Tiffany Haddish was the stand-out comedic actor.  I did not notice such a person in this movie. Bottom line, neither Regina Hall who played the older Jordan Sanders nor Marsai Martin who played the role of the younger Jordan Sanders made an impression on me.

Plot of the Little Movie

Plain and simple, the plot centers around adventures encountered by a woman when she was temporarily transformed to a teenager while her mind and actions were those of an adult.  This movie reminded me slightly of the movie I mentioned earlier, as well as the Prada movie starring Meryl Streep. However, if I compared the two movies, Prada would rank higher due to its realism and entertainment value. By contrast, the LIttle movie was more preachy” instead of entertaining.

Holes in Actions of the Little Movie

Of course, the Little movie is a made-up or fabricated story of actions and events, so it’s easy to notice some inconsistencies in the movie. Some of the most obvious moments happened when the main character transitioned from an adult to a teen and vice versa. For example, if the adult is walking around as a teenager, wouldn’t she notice her shoes did not fit?  Also, it's interesting to me how she could still wear the same clothes of someone with a a shorter stature when she changed back to an adult. Spoiler Alert: Case in point -- at the end of the movie, the adult Jordan Sanders wore the exact same sweater decorated with pictures of shoes and sunglasses as the teenager.

Fashion in the Little Movie

A fail in the film in my opinion was the choice of clothing chosen for some of the characters in the movie. Whoever dressed some of the characters could use a lesson from the fashion people on the movie set of the "What Men Want" starring Taraji P. Henson as well as other similar type movies.  Of the many fashion disasters, the biggest I think was the choice of shoes as well as the pink suit chosen for Marsai Martin who plays the younger Jordan Sanders. Spoiler alert:  Towards the end of the movie, the fashion people seemed to give up completely on fashion and dressed the star of the movie, Regina Hall simply in a black sweatshirt and black pants.

Moral of the LIttle Movie

If you watch the Little film, you may have thoughts  about the lesson the movie was trying to teach rather than the story line. This is not a bad thing, but I think the overarching reason for going to or watching movies is to be entertained or informed in some way.  There were a few entertaining parts in the movie -- mostly happening with impromptu singing and dancing -- but for the most part, the movie dwelled on maturity vs. immaturity.

Assessment of the Little Movie

I am on the fence about recommending that you watch the Little movie.  You may experience a few laugh out loud moments or maybe not. I think the movie was ok, but not one that I would necessarily rush out to see. A plus is the movie has a running time of only 1 hour, 49 minutes -- so if you decide to watch the movie Little, it should not take up too much of your time.

Rating of the Little Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the LIttle movie 3 stars.

Shazam! Movie Review by Ms. H

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of allgames.com.

Introduction to Shazam! Movie Review by Ms. H

Warning:  I will reveal a few spoilers in the Shazam! movie so if you have not seen it yet and plan to do so -- I recommend you watch the movie before you check out my review.  That being said, here my movie review of Shazam!

Plot of the Shazam! Movie

The plot  of Shazam! centered around a villain, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana trying to gain the powers of Shazam!  To do this, many battles ensued between them. Spoiler alert:  Apparently there is a special staff that turns people into superheroes if they just touch it.  When certain people touched the staff towards the end of the movie -- just like magic -- a superhero team was started. In my opinion, the actions that took place after their transformation made the movie Shazam! somewhat enjoyable to watch.

Pace of the Shazam! Movie

The Shazam! movie does not start with a lot of explosions, chases, etc.  Instead, the movie begins slow -- almost at a crawl. I suggest that you exercise  patience as you watch the movie as it builds up beginning with the origins of not only Shazam!, the superhero, but the villain as well.

Humor in the Shazam! Movie

If you watch the Shazam! movie, you may find yourself laughing sometimes out loud during some  parts. Looks like this character is trying to follow in the footsteps of Deadpool -- but does not quite make the cut.

Personally, I found the humor more slapstick and goofy instead of funny.  Maybe it was because the actor who played Shazam! did not seem naturally comedic as Ryan Reynolds was in the movie Deadpool. In fact, I think Shazam! has a long ways to go to catch up with the humor in Deadpool. On a positive note --  I thought it was humorous that the superhero was called by a various superhero-type names throughout the movie.

Standout Actor in the Shazam! Movie

You may think I will choose Zachary Levi who played the lead character in the movie as the standout actor. However, to the contrary, in my opinion, the actor who made an impression with me played the supporting actor’s role of mentoring the superhero.  His name is Jack Dylan Grazer who played the part of Frederick “Freddy”  Freeman. I think he displayed his acting skills in a believable way and presented himself as being a genuine character instead of a forced one.

Computer Generated Image (CGI) Graphics in the Shazam! Movie

Spoiler Alert: For the most part, the graphics department did an adequate job of depicting especially the monsters including a surprise one that appears at the end of the movie. However, when the monsters appeared or disappeared in a haze of smoke. I was reminded of The Mummy movie starring Tom Cruise when his arch enemy appeared during one of the scenes in a thick cloud of smoke.

Assessment of Shazam! Movie

Did the movie Shazam! deliver considering all the hype that preceded it?  My answer would be...it depends. If you like to watch long exhaustive background stories before the action starts, you may be satisfied with this movie.  For myself -- unless the movie is a drama instead of a superhero movie, I expect action to occur during the beginning of the movie and last throughout. To be fair, the lead character did perform a lot of running,  jumping and bumping into things -- but this was more slapstick comedy instead of action.

Spoiler alert:  As I mentioned previously, to me the Shazam! movie did not become somewhat enjoyable until the team was formed.  The first part of the movie was predictable and was more of filler material. Spoiler alert: A  highlight I think that is notable is the appearance of another superhero at the very end of the movie -- which I thought was creative on the part of the writer.

Rating of Shazam! Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I give the Shazam! movie 2 ½ stars.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie Review by Ms. H

It’s been a few weeks since I saw How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and I thought I would review this movie for you.  How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is an animated movie series. By the way, is it just me, or are animated movies getting more creative in their production?  But I digress. Without further ado, here is my movie review of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Characters in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie

The main characters in this movie include of course, the dragon Toothless, his cartoon human friend, Hiccup  and also his other new dragon friend, Light Fury. I remember seeing a previous How to Train Your Dragon movie where Hiccup’s mother, Valka had a more prominent role in the film.  Unfortunately, Valka only makes cameo-like appearances and the writers or powers that be decided to make her role a minor one in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

how

Plot of How to Train Your Dragon:  The Hidden World Movie

I think the name of the movie sort of gives the plot away.  From the title, you probably can predict there will be a search for the hidden world.  The questions that may come to mind are -- Was this world ever found and why would the characters search  for such a world in the first place? I won’t spoil it for you with the answers; however, I would like to add that since “The Hidden World” is in the movie’s title, I think it would have been nice for the audience to actually see even a glimpse of it during the movie.

Excess Footage in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie

As you watch the movie How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, you will see a (long) segment that is totally devoted to the female and male dragons sort of dancing in the sky.  This would have been well and good, except these type scenes happened quite often. After awhile you may be disappointed that more time was not focused on the quest to find the hidden world.

The Excitement Level of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie

I think this movie  stretched itself by trying to cover two scenarios that could have been separate movies. Specifically the scenes that sort of explored the relationship between the two dragons,Toothless and Light Fury --  as well as the villain’s aim to capture the dragons.  In fact, if the former was left out -- that would have been ok by me since that would have left more time to concentrate on the aspect of the dragons being captured.

Inconsistency in How to Train Your Dragon:  The Hidden World

Spoiler Alert: The major inconsistency that stood out for me was the  scene where the villain is in a strategic position to capture the dragon, Toothless but for some unknown reason did not.

He retreated with a message to Hiccup that he  would be back when Hiccup got the dragon ready -- which is an enigma in itself.  How do you get a dragon ready for capture and why should Hiccup do this for the villain?  I think this part would have been more believable if the villain failed to capture the dragon then threaten Hiccup that he would return to try again.

Assessment of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Personally, I did not thoroughly enjoy this rendition of How to Train Your Dragon and I think it ranks second to the previous movie in the series. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World seemed overly long because of prolonged chasing, dancing, etc. of the dragons which to me was filler material.

Regarding other movies in the series -- it looks like this movie will be the last one; however, in my opinion, one never knows if it will be revived in the future.

On the positive side --  I think there were many creative type CGI moments in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which caused me to rate the movie higher. Without going into a lot of detail, these moments included how Light Fury would show shyness by covering her face with her wings; all the different animated characters that made up the cast of the movie; and last but not least the depiction of the main characters, Hiccup and his friend Astrid. Another plus was the PG rating of the movie.

Rating of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World 3 stars.
