So Philips is working on this new television which is said to be "the world’s first truly cinematic TV". It Looks very pretty, me want.
Make every night a premiere with Cinema 21:9Coming soon, the world’s first truly cinematic TV that perfectly matches the original 2.39:1 movie format used by directors. Over 60% of DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies support the 2.39:1 movie format. That means no more annoying black bars on this ultra widescreen TV. No picture loss. Just movies the way the director wanted you to see them.As our top of the range TV, Cinema 21:9 offers a 56 inch ultra wide screen with Ambilight Spectra 3 and Perfect Pixel HD Engine to maximize the cinematic feeling. Plus with Net TV you can enjoy some of the best websites tailored to fit your TV.

Uh.. That's great if all you do is watch movies. As soon as you switch to normal TV, it's black bars again! If all you're going to do is watch movies on a given output device, better to get an actual projector IMO.

Not if they find a way that you can watch 2 channels side by side. :)

But then those channels won't be widescreen..And actually they won't fit even in 4:3 format unless you want to scrunch them a little.

What if we bump the channels up to 4 or 8 .. can you crunch the aspects for me?

Or like how they did it in Back To The Future Part 2 with a ton of channels showing on a large screen.

It's a nice gimmick, but it's a gimmick that isn't really going to sell that well.
