The 360 drive IS loud although I don't think its as bad as some people make it out to be. But then again maybe certain disc drives are the ones that are loud and other 360s have different disc drives.

Mine's pretty damn quiet unless the disc itself is out of whack, which is rare. Soul Calibur 4 is my loudest disc, sometimes I have to pull it out and reload it to make it stop vibrating or whatever the heck it's doing.

Not all drives are the same. There is a noticeably large difference between the drive in my Elite and in my friends'.

I need to record what mine sounds like during Guitar Hero 2. It's fucking insane. It's like a demon brought my disc, disc drive and 360 to life, gave them no way to breathe properly and set them all on fire, while they all scream and gasp for air.

Some of us are in apartments, or have our consoles set up somewhere other than the living room, and don't want the sound to carry too far so as to not disturb others. So yes, we play with the volume low. Especially late at night when it keeps people up.

Wow! So you solved the volume issue that isn't an issue since we turn it down. The console itself gets loud enough to be heard too, though. The DVD drives on both mine and my brothers are so loud you can hear them through the joining wall.

Which brings me to my point that they aren't THAT loud and you might have some defective hardware. Seriously, you're making it sound like they're big 40 pound PC's with 7 different fans. What my picture solves is the problem of noise and noise pollution, since others don't have to hear your game's sound and you don't have to hear others. day ya go
