Introduction to Gone Girl: An Amazon Prime Video Movie Review by Ms. H
I watched Gone Girl in the movie theater a few years ago and took another look at this film on Amazon Prime Video. There were a few things I recalled about the movie and I actually remembered more of the story as I rewatched the film. Several times while watching the movie, I thought....Oh, I didn’t know she or he did that.”
If you have or have not seen the Gone Girl movie - you may be wondering if you should see it now that it is streaming. Check out my Gone Girl movie review to help you decide.
Synopsis of the Gone Girl Movie
At first glance, the Gone Girl movie may seem like a drama strictly dealing with the strained relationship between the husband, played by Ben Affleck and wife played by Rosamund Pike. It seems tha the honeymoon stage of the marriage had its run before things got bad -- and I mean really, really bad.
However, if you watch the movie, you may discover details not only about the revengeful wife, but also about the husband as well. Even though this movie is essentially a drama, it also can be categorized as an horror or psychological thriller due to some of the actions that take place during the film.
Acting Skills Displayed in the Gone Girl Movie
Everyone for the most part did an adequate job acting their roles. In my opinion, there was a character who seemed out of place in the movie but his part was so small that his appearance did not take away from the suspenseful drama of the movie. In fact, I think that if this particular role was performed by a lesser known actor, the movie would not have been impacted in any way.
Little Known Fact: Major shade was thrown at the” kidnapped” wife that was said sarcastically during the Gone Girl movie -- ‘Whoever took her is bound to bring her back.”
Optimal Place to End the Gone Girl Movie Story
If you watch the Gone Girl movie, there is a segment of the film, where things seem to wrap up not so much due to the sinister things done by the husband but those actions done by the revengeful wife. Spoiler Alert: There is one part of the movie where she recounted how she did her devious deeds. At this point, the movie staff and crew of Gone Girl could probably have wrapped up and called it a day.
However, there were additional scenes following the wife's revelations. It looks like the movie was longer to steer the story in a direction that could lead to the desired ending.
I’m on the fence if the additional film footages made an impact on the movie. In hindsight, I do not have an opinion one way or the other. On one hand, the movie could have ended sooner; however, on the other hand, I guess the writer wanted to add more scenes or drama to advance the story along.
Assessment of the Gone Girl Movie
I found watching the Gone Girl film at a movie theater on the big screen was a more memorable experience than rewatching it on Amazon Prime Video. But since I did not recall verbatim what happened during the movie, I was fine with looking at the streaming version of Gone Girl. Additionally, as I rewatched the Gone Girl movie, I did not feel like I was wasting my time. If you watch this movie, you may come to a similar conclusion.
Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the Gone GIrl movie not a solid, but nonetheless -- 5 stars.
