Introduction to the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Movie Review by Ms. H

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a movie I made a mental note to watch when it released.  I thought that watching this movie would be well worth my time and money. Was it?  Check out my movie review to find out!

Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio  - Together - in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Movie

Let’s cut to the chase here -- The choice of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to star in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood movie was definitely a win-win situation.  Prior to seeing the movie, I watched a youtube video where the actors were interviewed as well as the director Quentin Tarentino.  From the interview, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio both seemed to get along well, without showing any tendency to try to out-do or out-shine the other.  In other words, there was no competition that I could see regarding who was the bigger star -- which made for a good interview.

By the way, I give an honorable mention to Margot Robbie in her role as Sharon Tate in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood movie which for the most part was low-key.

Little Known Fact: Prior to the Once Upon a TIme n Hollywood movie, actors Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio have never worked together in a film.

Acting Skills  Displayed by Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Movie

I must say that even though Brad Pitt gave what I thought was a good performance, it was Leonardo DiCaprio who took his acting abilities to the next level.  I won’t spoil the movie for you, but there is a scene where his character showed quite a bit of disappointment in himself and his acting abilities on the movie set so strongly that you may think that Leonardo DiCaprio is not acting.  By contrast, Brad Pitt had one scene where I think he probably could have showcased his acting expertise just a tad bit more --  even though his acting abilities were fine.  However, all in all, I think they both delivered great performances.

From the title, you will probably know that this movie, just as most movies, is a fabrication of events.  In this case the story is about a tragic occurrence that actually happened in 1969.  Towards that end, I think the writer and Quentin Tarentino took an extraordinary huge literary license to change the course of events.  However, on the other hand, I thought it was smart of him to title the movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" -- since some  imiaginative stories start in this manner.

My Assessment of the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Movie

Due to the movie's length, I’m surprised there was litte to no press about how long it is.  If you decide to see this movie at the theater  be prepared to sit for some time. But due to the happenings and what was covered in the movie, its length suited the story.

That being said, In my opinion if the movie’s plot had concentrated more on the career of the movie actor as played by Leonardo DiCaprio and his stunt-double as played by Brad Pitt -- as well as being more true to the events that happened --  the movie would have fared better

However, on the bright side, if the trend continues with pairing A-list actors in movies, I think the movie viewing audiences will have plenty of  entertaining movies coming their way.

Rating  of the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate  Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio's  acting performances 5 stars; however I rate the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood movie itself  3 ¾ stars.
