Introduction to The Huntsman: Winter’s War - A Ms H Movie Review

Before I start my movie review, I would like to give a shout out to Charlize Theron including all the exciting movies she’s starring in lately.  There are so many, I’ve lost count, including of course this movie, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, but also The Fate of the Furious, and the upcoming Atomic Blonde.  Charlize Theron seems to be upping her game, and I give her kudos for the excellent roles she has been landing.  When I saw The Huntsman: Winter’s War, I was not as familiar with Charlize Theron’s acting abilities as I am now.  I recall thinking that they have many models acting now -- at that time, not knowing quite how accomplished Charlize Theron was in her acting roles.

Plot of The Huntsman: Winter’s War - A Ms. H Movie Review

It’s been sometime since I saw The Huntsman: Winter’s War in the movie theater.   However, I do recollect this movie is loosely based on the Snow White fairy tale where the protagonist often asks the mirror who is the fairest of them all.  Additionally, this particular movie involved a relationship between two other characters Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain who were for some reason kept apart.  Later in the movie, they actually had to fight against each other. As time marches on, sometimes people do not look as young and rejuvenated as in the past.  I believe this was the dilemma facing Charlize Theron’s character, who always wanted to be the fairest of them all.  This was especially difficult for her since it was prophesized that there would be someone who would be even more beautiful than she was.

Scenery of The Huntsman: Winter’s War - A Ms. H Movie Review

It’s unclear to me how much of the background scenery was CGI and how much was real.  However, that being said, I was impressed with the cinematography of the movie, including the elegant gowns and costumes worn by some of the character.  As you watch this movie, you can be transported to a fairytale land where there is an evil protagonist played by Charlize Theron amidst other characters such as Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain mentioned earlier. I believe there is a scene in the movie when the Huntsman and Jessica Chastain’s character are in the forest and he gives her water from a leaf.  To me, this scene was reminiscent of the movie First Knight where Richard Gere’s character pours clear water from a leaf and gives it to the young lady whom he had just saved.  Of course, these movies are based on fairy tales, so there was a lot of savings of females going on.
