Introduction to Star Wars: The Force Awakens - A Ms. H Movie Review
Sometimes a movie comes along and you think -- “This movie is different...There is something special about this movie.” It’s very likely a lot of you reading my move review thought this or felt something similar about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Maybe it was the humongous hype Star Wars: The Force Awakens got before it was even released. I literally lost count of the number of “leaks” that came out about this movie. There were so many I wondered if these were truly leaks or simply a way to heighten the excitement and anticipation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What I can assure you is the hype was real and Star Wars: The Force Awakens lived up to the hype in more ways than one. This movie went on to break many records and more when it was finally released.
Characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought back iconic characters as well as introduced some new ones. Before the movie was released, I saw a late night show where most of the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens appeared. That’s when I first heard John Boyega and found out that in addition to playing what I would call a breakthrough character, he was English as well. There was a lot of buzz about him being in the movie as if getting this role was groundbreaking. It’s interesting to me how quickly some people forget that in addition to Samuel L Jackson being in many of the Star Wars movies, there was Lando Calrissian played by Billie Dee Williams.
I think it was an excellent choice for Daisy Ridley as Rey to be introduced as the main star in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Even though she was relatively new to being in movies and was not well-known at the time, similar to other new actors in this movie, she did not take a back seat to the other more seasoned actors. She held her own as Rey and made the character not only believable, but likeable too. It may have helped that she had a robot by the name of BB-8 with her. By the way, I got C3PO robot vibes when I saw BB-8 even though his mode of movement was rolling unlike C3PO sliding motions, and of course he looked different as well.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought back iconic Star Wars characters in the spotlight. Harrison Ford commanded the action scenes and I don’t think his role could not have been played by any other actor. In fact, the news after the movie opened was that his character, in part, made Star Wars: The Force Awakens as exciting as it was. Of course, I think all of the characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens did an excellent job of bringing their characters to life in a way that made them almost as memorable as the original Star Wars characters of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and many others. I say “almost” because I don’t think any of the newer Star Wars movies can live up to the original -- even in today’s world of high-tech and CGI.
The Magic of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
I can only imagine the feeling of sheer magic tha must have been felt when the original stars of Star Wars were on set together. Of course, the scenes could have been shot with them in different locations, but the idea of being together again on a Star Wars movie set was probably a once in a life-time experience for them. It had to be enlightening to think a relatively little unknown Star Wars movie that was made years ago had become such a mainstay as well as a huge influence in movies and other industries.
Action and Storyline of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
To get into the gist of what makes a movie great, I have to touch upon action and the storyline of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The pace between actions as well as the storyline was on point. What’s interesting to me is how the actors themselves did not divulge exactly what would unfold in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I must give kudos to the actors, crew and everyone involved in the movie for not saying a word edgewise and spoiling it for movie goers and avid Star Wars fans prior to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Assessment of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars: The Force Awakens without a doubt delivered in grand way. When I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the movie theater, not only was I on the edge of my seat in excitement but I felt like I was experiencing history in the making. Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced a number of characters who have become icons in their own right. I think Star Wars: The Force Awakens storyline tied in excellently with the characters from the original Star Wars movies.
I was satisfied the directors, writers, and producers chose to use such iconic Star Wars alumnis as they did. Since Star Wars movies have taken on a life of their own, they could have easily tied this movie to a number of others -- but they stayed true in casting some of the original, iconic stars of this movie. I would have liked to see Billy D. Williams appear as Lando Calrissian and maybe an appearance of Yoda as well. However, overall, the characters did their part to make Star Wars: The Force Awakens just as memorable and exciting as the original Star Wars movies.
Rating of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Based on a rating of 1 to 5 stars with 5 stars being the best, I rate Star Wars: The Force Awakens 5 stars.
