Background of Suicide Squad Movie

Did you get a chance to see Suicide Squad? It was one of the biggest grossing movies money-wise of the summer. Just in case you have not yet seen the movie, and even if you have, here is a movie review of Suicide Squad for you.

Actors in Suicide Squad

If you asked me who stood out in Suicide Squad, more so than the others, I would choose Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot.  I would pick Will Smith as Deadshot because in my opinion, Deadshot took a leadership role in the movie. Harley Quinn sparkled because she seemed to add brightness and a degree of comic relief to the movie. I think some of her lines in the movie were too cutesy and that she is probably a lot smarter than how she was depicted.  I wouldn't go so far as to say she was stereotyped as a "dumb blonde" but there were inkling of that in her character.  This could be the case because she is displayed in the comic book this way and the writers/director wanted to keep her as close to the true nature of the character as possible.

Regarding my favorite and least favorite characters, I would list Harley Quinn as my favorite with Will Smith's Deadshot as a close second. Harley Quinn was my favorite because she added "light" to the movie and whenever she appeared on the screen I was ready to laugh or smile at her antics. My least favorite would be Viola Davis who played the part of the recruiter for Suicide Squad -- not because of her acting skills but in my opinion, she acted too serious for this comic book based movie.

Positives of Suicide Squad

Some of the positives include the fact that even though these characters for the most part were criminals or villains themselves, it was interesting to see how they came together to form a team against the enemy.

I was glad to see a female villain, Harley Quinn featured in the movie. At least she was not relegated to be a female who had to be saved, (spoiler alert) even though in the movie she was sort of rescued.  Some may disapprove of her outfit, but she was dressed similarly to the comic book character, so I had no problems with her outfit.

You may think the movie runs long, but in my opinion, this movie spanned an adequate amount of time -- not too long and not too short.

Additionally, there was a fair amount of action to keep your interest.

Negatives of Suicide Squad

As I look back on the movie, I think there was a lack of originality. There were a lot of scenes that looked similar to me.   For example how many movies have you seen where members of the team are recruited one by one.  You also knew that initially the team was going to be rejected by this organization, and then eventually accepted.

There was a smattering of profanity in this movie as well and what I would call inappropriate remarks that seemed to be funny to the move audience -- but not to me.  I think they were trying to channel PG-13 rated Suicide Squad with the rated R Deadpool movie to a certain extent, but for the most part what I heard was not as bad or anywhere near raunchy as the dialogue in Deadpool.

Personally, I did not see the appeal of the Joker character as a sort of Don Juan, but I guess maybe the writers were following the comic book.

Assessment of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is a movie you can enjoy and then go about your business when it's over.  Some movies leave you in deep thought, but this one was an adequate way to spend your time and move on after it was over. Who knows?  This movie may even leave a smile on your face.

Rating of Suicide Squad

Based on a rating scale of 1 star to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest, I give Suicide Squad 3 stars.
